Clavis. Latin for key.
An independent advisory firm serving owner-led businesses in operationally intensive industries.
Most businesses don’t need more advice.
Most businesses don’t need more advice. They need the key that unlocks what’s actually slowing them down — the vendor workflow that quietly bleeds margin, the org gap that keeps the founder as a bottleneck, the system that only works because one person holds it all together.
Clavis Advisory diagnoses the real problem, builds a plan to fix it, and stays through implementation until results are running on their own. No filler. No generic frameworks. Just direct answers and real execution.
We work across construction, real estate, food and beverage, and creative services — operationally intensive industries where the problems are messy and the stakes are personal. Our 7-dimension Operational Diagnostic was built from patterns that kept showing up across all of them: the same vendor breakdowns, the same org gaps, the same founder bottlenecks.
Three commitments that govern how Clavis operates.
Stewardship Over Sales
Clavis is engaged by introduction. We assess fit on both sides before any work begins, and we decline engagements where the firm is not the right match for the founder’s situation.
Diagnosis Before Prescription
No engagement begins with a template. Every project starts with a structured assessment across seven operational dimensions — because the right solution depends entirely on what the diagnostic actually reveals.
Completion, Not Delivery
An engagement is finished when the business operates without us. We stay embedded through execution until new structures run under their own weight — then we withdraw, leaving documentation behind.
Built by an active business owner.
Clavis Advisory is led by Thu Nguyen — an active construction company owner with over 25 years of operating experience. He holds a Master of Accounting and Financial Management (MAFA) and has completed doctoral coursework in Finance.
That combination — academic training in finance, years of actually running operations, and cross-sector pattern recognition — is what shapes every engagement.
Clavis isn’t theory. It’s work that has to make sense to someone who still has to make the same kinds of decisions in his own business every day.

PrincipalFive movements from first conversation to final handoff.
Every Clavis engagement follows a deliberate cadence — grounded, illuminated, and returned to the owner intact.
Discernment
Before any work, the ground is read.
Every engagement begins by introduction and continues with listening. We meet the founder where the business actually lives — the operating reality, the unspoken constraints, the inherited decisions that shape what comes next. Nothing is prescribed. We assess fit on both sides: whether the firm can serve, and whether the founder is ready to be served.
Clavis is not engaged on every introduction, and not every engagement proceeds past Discernment. That restraint is the doctrine.
Illumination
The structured diagnostic — clarity before commitment.
Across seven operational dimensions, we deliver a structured assessment that returns the founder to clear sight of their own operation. This is the catalytic moment of the arc — where assumptions are tested, hidden constraints surface, and the real shape of the business becomes visible. We do not bring templates. We bring questions, instruments, and the discipline to sit with what the answers reveal.
The Diagnostic is delivered as a written dossier. The founder owns the document. If the engagement ends here, the dossier remains a permanent reference.
Foundation
Translating clarity into operating structure.
Where the founder elects to proceed, the Diagnostic becomes the basis for an implementation plan — sequenced, prioritized, and built to the rhythm the business can actually absorb. We design the operating structures that didn’t exist, formalize the ones that did, and put governance in place where authority was previously informal.
The aim is not transformation. The aim is durability. Foundation work is paced to the owner’s cadence — stewardship over speed.
Embodiment
Implementation through completion. We stay until it operates.
Most advisors leave when the deck is delivered. Clavis stays embedded through execution — working alongside the founder and the team until the new structures are running under their own weight.
Embodiment is the longest movement of the arc. Its measure is not deliverables produced, but operations functioning. We do not declare completion. The business does.
Stewardship & Release
The business is handed back — intact, documented, sovereign.
A Clavis engagement ends as it began: with the founder in full possession of their operation. We close by documenting what was built, codifying decisions for institutional memory, and confirming that no dependency on Clavis remains. The firm withdraws so the business can run without us.
Where appropriate, we remain available by introduction for future arcs — a new diagnostic, a discrete advisory question, a moment of inflection. The relationship continues. The engagement does not.
